Stinging Insects

Hymenoptera

Safe removal of wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets nests from around your property.

Overview

Yellowjackets, wasps, hornets, and carpenter bees are aggressive defenders of their nests and can deliver painful stings. Some species nest in the ground, others in trees, eaves, and wall voids. Stinging insect allergies can cause life-threatening anaphylactic reactions in sensitive individuals.

Identification

Yellowjackets: black and yellow striped, 12–16 mm, ground or void nesters

Paper wasps: slender, brown with yellow markings, umbrella-shaped nests

Bald-faced hornets: black with white face markings, large paper nests

Carpenter bees: resemble bumblebees but have shiny, hairless abdomen

Mud daubers: slender with thin waist, build mud tube nests

Behavior & Habitat

Most stinging insects are social and live in colonies. They become more aggressive in late summer and fall as colonies peak. Yellowjackets are attracted to sugary foods and meats at outdoor gatherings. Carpenter bees bore into wood to lay eggs, causing cosmetic and structural damage over time.

Warning Signs

  • Visible nests under eaves, in trees, or in the ground
  • Increased buzzing activity around specific areas of the home
  • Carpenter bee holes (perfectly round, dime-sized) in wood
  • Aggressive behavior when approaching certain areas
  • Finding dead insects near windows indoors

Prevention Tips

  • Inspect property in early spring for small developing nests
  • Seal gaps in siding, soffits, and around utility penetrations
  • Keep trash cans sealed and clean
  • Avoid wearing bright colors and strong fragrances outdoors
  • Paint or stain exposed wood to deter carpenter bees

Professional Treatment

Our technicians locate and identify the nest type and species, apply specialized dust or liquid treatment directly to the nest, remove the nest structure after the colony is eliminated, and apply preventive exclusion treatments to potential nesting sites.
